Ingram Entertainment

Ingram Entertainment, Inc. is a leading distributor for home entertainment products in the United States. Ingram Entertainment Inc. was formed in 1980 as one of Ingram Industries Inc.’s umbrella of companies to focus on video distribution. Initially, the company only distributed video to bookstores. In 1982, the company began distribution to video stores and other non-bookstore retailers. Additionally, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the company diversified its product offerings by adding audio and laser disc lines. The company’s growth in the late 1980s was fueled in large part by the 1987 acquisition of Home Entertainment and the 1989 acquisition of Metro Video. In June 1992, Ingram Entertainment Inc., then the second largest distributor in the industry, acquired and merged with Commtron Corp., the largest entertainment software distributor in the U.S. This transaction added not only management and associates, but also additional product lines including electronics, video games and Monarch Home Entertainment, one of the nation’s oldest suppliers of independently produced feature films. In September 2023 they announced they would close its business from physical media distribution and look for new ventures.
