Mani

Mani Limited (万信有限公司) is a Hong Kong based toy and console manufacturer and distributor that covered China, Hong Kong, and other Asian countries outside of Japan. The company was founded in May 30th, 1991 under the alias of "Tana" at the beginning, this was later changed to "Mani" as soon as August 8th of the same year. They notoriously became an official distributor and assembler of Nintendo games and products for that region. They would make game cartridges, consoles, and officially licensed merchandise as well such as LCD display toys. During the 1990s there was a rampant problem of game piracy in China and Hong Kong, and the Game Boy was a popular choice on bootleg purchases as they were very cheap. Nintendo demanded Mani to take action to mitigate this but they did not respond with the enthusiasm they expected. As consequence, Nintendo revoked their distribution rights for the handheld and transferred them to toy distributor Auldey Double Diamond between 1997 and 1998. On April 7th, 2005 Nintendo established a Hong Kong branch demoting Mani to becoming a secondary distribution agent. Some time after 2006, Mani would become the primary distributor for Takara Tomy toys in the Asia-region. Between March and December of 2017, launch versions of the Nintendo Switch for the Hong Kong region would display Mani as its distributor, this would be revised on later versions. It is reported that the company is still active to this day.
