Summary

Despite earlier rumors of a downgraded port due to the PlayStation 2's hardware limitations, this port of Resident Evil 4 have been generally favorable. Almost all the GameCube's real-time cut scenes were converted into movie files in order to maintain a better quality. Furthermore, voices and sound effects quality outside the cut-scenes had been reduced due to disc space being quickly used and audio RAM constraints. Capcom added new content made specifically for this port to compensate for the late release, such as minigames, documentaries and costumes.

Second-To-Second combat is more strategic than earlier titles. I like the connected map. It gives the village a more "real" feeling even though you rarely backtrack to previous areas. No decentralized puzzles. Every puzzle automatically has all the pieces you need in the same zone, which is kind of a bummer. Game gives you significantly more resources to deal with challenges, so there isn't as much tension in exploration and combat. Game is way more "arcade-y" feeling than original trilogy. Had to fix FOV with re4_tweaks to not give me motion sickness. Some outdated design like QTEs and clunky combat, but hard to knock a game made in 2004. This RE release strays too "action-y" for me to love like 1, 2, and 3, which I completely realize is a cardinal sin for me to admit.
